I can list and explain the “I AM” statements in the Gospel of John
Prayer
Reflect prayerfully on the Scripture reading as you listen.
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.”
John 6:35
Lord Jesus, you taught us that you are the Bread of Life whom we receive in the Eucharist. When we receive you we are invited to eternal life where we will never hunger or thirst. Draw us ever nearer to you, Lord, in the Eucharist, so that we can respond to your invitation of eternal life.
Glory be...
I AM Statements
St. John paints a very beautiful and vivid picture of who Jesus is in his Gospel through seven “I AM statements” and seven signs Jesus performs throughout the Gospel. We will explore the signs in the next lesson but today, we will focus on the “I AM” statements. In John’s Gospel, Jesus makes seven “I AM” statements. In other words, Jesus clearly speaks and claims the name of God.
