The Gospel of Luke and The Holy Spirit

Objective

I can analyze the importance of the Holy Spirit in the Gospel of Luke

Prayer

Reflect prayerfully on the Scripture reading as you listen.

“Everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. When they take you before synagogues and before rulers and authorities, do not worry about how or what your defense will be or about what you are to say. For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that moment what you should say.”

Luke 12:10-12

Lord Jesus, you sent your Spirit upon your disciples to teach them how to defend the Faith and speak your Word. We pray, O Lord, that your Spirit will fill us so that we too might know what to say and we might be strengthened to defend the faith courageously.

Glory be...

Warm Up

“Come, O Creator Spirit Blessed”

(words attributed to Rhabanus Maurus, ca. 800 [Veni Creator Spiritus, Mentes tuorum visita]; translated from Latin to English by Edward Caswall, Lyra Catholica, 1849; music: Grace Church Ignaz J. Pleyel, 1815):

Come, O Creator Spirit blest,

And in our souls take up Thy rest;

Come, with Thy grace and heavenly aid,

To fill the hearts which Thou hast made.

Great Comforter, to Thee we cry;

O highest gift of God most high,

O Fount of life, O Fire of love,

And sweet anointing from above!

The sacred sevenfold grace is Thine,

Dread finger of the hand divine;

The promise of the Father Thou,

Who dost the tongue with power endow.

Kindle our senses from above,

And make our hearts o’erflow with love;

With patience firm, and virtue high,

The weakness of our flesh supply.

Far from us drive the foe we dread,

And grant us Thy true peace instead;

So shall we not, with Thee for guide,

Turn from the path of life aside.

O may Thy grace on us bestow

The Father and the Son to know,

And evermore to hold confessed

Thyself of each the Spirit blest.
