The Inspiration and Authorship of Scripture
Learning Goals
Learning Goals
All Scripture is inspired by God.
Scripture is inerrant, meaning without error.
Scripture teaches solidly, faithfully, and without error the truth that God wanted written in Scripture for the sake of our salvation.
God is the primary author of Scripture.
The human authors, moved by the Holy Spirit, are the secondary and instrumental authors of Scripture.
To understand fully what God wanted to communicate to us through the Scriptures, we must first consider what the human authors intended to say. This requires us to be aware of the different circumstances and literary techniques these authors used.
There are two main senses of Scripture: the literal sense and the spiritual sense.

Know this first of all, that there is no prophecy of scripture that is a matter of personal interpretation, for no prophecy ever came through human will; but rather human beings moved by the holy Spirit spoke under the influence of God.
