Warm Up
Activity 1: Praying the Lectio Divina with Matthew 14:22-23
Then he made the disciples get into the boat and precede him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. After doing so, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When it was evening he was there alone.
Matthew 14:22-23:
I am going to read the passage three times.
For the first reading, close your eyes and simply listen. Write on your own paper one word or phrase that jumped out at you. You will have one or two minutes of silence to do this.
For the second reading, close your eyes and really engage your imagination and senses and picture the scene. Write down an image that stood out to you. You will have one or two minutes of silence to do this.
For the third and final reading, close your eyes and envision the scene again, this time imagining yourself in the story. Write down what you think God is trying to tell you specifically through this passage. You will have three to five minutes of silence to contemplate the passage and write.
