Building Up the Church and the Kingdom of God

We spoke yesterday about the Kingdom of God and that Christ established His Church to build up the Kingdom of God on earth and in Heaven. We also spoke about how the Holy Spirit helps to protect and bring about the Kingdom. Today we are going to explore our role in building up the Church and the Kingdom of God.

We must all do our part to build up the Kingdom of God on earth. We watched a YouTube video earlier about how a group of people came together to start a community garden. This garden will help feed hundreds of people in their neighborhood. But this is not all of what life is about. We are hungry for more than just material things. As Christ said to the woman at the well, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again; but whoever drinks the water I shall give will never thirst; the water I shall give will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:13-14)

As human persons, we are all a part of God’s family. He calls us to help our brothers and sisters with more than just material needs. Christ tells us in Matthew to “Go...make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20). We are called to be missionaries and share God’s love with all those we encounter. The way we share God’s love is by loving and respecting others and by our commitment to justice for all of God’s children.

Next, we will watch a video about a group of people who are sharing God’s love on a mission trip. Pay attention to what they are doing and what their motivation is for doing it. Remember that all of us are called to be missionaries and share God’s love.
